The Camino Countryside

A long day’s walk out of the metropolis of Burgos leads you to the village of Hontanas in the middle of the Meseta plain. The walk into the village included a final slow trudge through five kilometers on a very muddy trail that day. This pictoresque village was our stopping point. Arriving early in the afternoon allowed plenty of time to scrub off the mud from very dirty trail clothes, enjoy lunch and a cold beer, settle into the Albergue Santa Brígida, and catch up with Camino friends. Hontanas represents one of the quintessential Camino villages that gives The Way much of it’s character.
