Saint James Walks The Way With You
In the middle of the peaceful village of Villar de Mazarife is this wonderful modern sculpture of Saint James. In fact, it’s almost impossible to go even a day without some seeing some type of artistic rendering of Santiago. From León to here was a relatively short 20 km. walk. Villar de Mazarife is just one example of one of the many very small villages that seems to exist on the Camino because pilgrims pass this way. The town center offers little more than a stone church, one of the three albergues in town, a café/bar, and this statue of Saint James. After checking in, getting settled and cleaning up at the Albergue San Antonio de Pádua, I ventured down to the café/bar to grab lunch, catch up on my journaling, and eventually meet up with some new Camino friends.
