La Concha – So Typical, Yet Also Very Special
After any Camino, I like to spend a few extra days in Spain decompressing and processing my walk. Two nights in Santiago is a minimum to enjoy just some of what this city has to offer and to better appreciate its significance for pilgrims who have spent days or weeks on the Camino. As I often fly home out of Madrid, heading there for a couple of nights prior to my return flight lets me taste just some of what this great European capital has to offer. One treat that I came to look forward to on my Caminos was sipping a post-walk vermouth at the end of the day. In Madrid we found this wonderful taberna just south of the Plaza Major. Unlike most vermouth I’ve had in Spain or elsewhere, here at La Concha they season the glass with a spray of gin. A couple bottles of this delicious libation mysteriously found their way into our checked baggage home.
