The Romans Were Here!
Vestiges of an old Roman civilization can be found all across Spain and along the Camino. Part way between Pontedueme and Betanzos, near Miño, on the Camino Inglés, we came across this small, but representative bridge built by the Romans nearly two-thousand years ago. Although we had crossed similar bridges on this and other Caminos, the feeling of a connection with ancient peoples fills one up as you step onto the same stones used by generations to cross this stream. From grand to humble structures, these remnants of a once glorious Roman occupation of this land appear to have been constructed well enough to withstand the passage of time. It’s hard not to be struck by the power of history walking through the Spanish countryside.
