Architectural Gems Along The Way
From Roman to medieval, the architectural wonders one sees walking the Camino Francés is a stroll through history. From great gothic cathedrals to bridges, small to large, constructed by the Romans, something interesting exists in nearly every town and city a pilgrim passes through. More contemporary are the architectural achievements of Antoni Gaudi. Although most may be more familiar with with Barcelona masterpiece La Sagrada Familia, his work can also be found directly on the Camino in both Léon and Astorga. In Léon, the Casa Botines represents both the creative, whimsical, and fairytale-like characteristics of “off the beaten path” art.
