Café Iruña
Just three days into our Camino and already, so many great places and experiences. We decided to spend an extra day in Pamplona more so to see the city rather than a need for a rest yet. On my first trip here, I stayed at a very nice central city hostel, the Albergue Plaza Catedral. It’s right next to the cathedral and just a couple short blocks from the Plaza del Castillo where one finds the somewhat infamous Café Iruña. If you’ve read Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, this was the hangout for Hem and his buddies on their forays to Pamplona for the running of the bulls. On more than one occasion, I’ve found myself at the Iruña for some early morning journaling and a latte. The are so many good eateries for tapas and drinks on and off The Plaza that one cannot nearly try them all. Nonetheless, the Café Iruña should be near the top of your list both because of ambiance as well as its cultural significance.
