Iconic Locations: The Arco de Cáparra
One of the real treats along the VDLP are the Roman ruins scattered throughout this part of Spain. Perhaps the largest single spot for seeing just how impressive the Roman civilization was in Iberia is found in Mérida, but I was most impressed by the Arco de Cáparra out in the middle of the Spanish countryside. That was Camino went directly underneath the arch was even more impressive. The route up to this spot is through beautiful rolling hills. All of a sudden, there you are gazing upon what has has endured the ravages of time, this magnificent Roman ruin. Although little is left of rest of the city that was there, you can see the efforts of archeologists piecing together what this site once looked like. It was a great spot for a break and a snack before peddling on.
