The Path to Somewhere
On this pre-Easter Camino in Portugal, we had The Way almost to ourselves. If you’re looking to avoid crowds or the “pilgrim freeway,” traveling off-season may just be what you’re looking for. As it turned out this year for us, the weather in late-March and early-April was spectacular. Walking out of Porto, we had nearly perfect weather except for a couple days of light drizzle early on. Even on this very rare uphill path on the Alto da Portela heading toward Rubiães the hiking conditions along the CP are quite friendly. One is likely to have more difficulty managing the cobblestones than the hills. Once at our destination for the night, we stayed at the very friendly Alojamento Local Ninho.
