Making Friends Along The Way
It’s already day or stage 10 along the Camino Francés and one now sees familiar faces throughout the day. Although I walk alone, one can’t help but strike up conversations with fellow pilgrims both on and off the trail. Some folks develop a “Camino family” whom they consequently pass a great deal of time. My preference was to walk solo knowing that I’d intersect with others at café/bars, albergues, or on the trail to walk a short distance with. From a language perspective, English did seem to be the common denominator most of the time. Although walking alone, it would be highly unusual not to meet up with friends that one had made over the course of the pilgrimage. As I settled for the night at the Albergue Cuatro Cantones in Belorado, of course there were Camino friends there to share an evening meal.
