Oh Salamanca, If Only I Had More Time!
Entering the city, one has a grand view of the ancient buildings of Salamanca. Along the VDLP there are several great cities where when can enjoy a day of rest as well as a treasure chest of historical monuments and structures: Sevilla, Mérida, Cáceres, and Salaanca. Although the VDLP is approximately a 36 stage pilgrimage for hikers, I covered the 600 mile route by bike in just twelve days. Had I walked this Camino, I would have surely enjoyed and taken advantage of rests days in any of these great cities. In hindsight, although it was a wonderful adventure, cycling a camino causes too much if it to blur together particularly at the pace of 50 miles per day. My overnight in Salamanca was much too brief! My room in a tiny Pension Los Angeles Plaza overlooked the majestic Plaza Mayor and allowed me one of the best views in the city. Unfortunately, after a little sightseeing, a fine dinner, and a trip to a bike shop for inner tubes, it seemed that just as quickly I was back on the road again heading toward Zamora.
